There’s a lot of weird stuff on YouTube, but every once in a while you stumble across something that makes you think, “Wow—why have I never seen this before?” That’s what I thought when I came across this video (below) by the Catholic musical group Harpa Dei.
This is a quartet of siblings who have devoted themselves to the Lord and to sacred music. Their style is clearly grounded in traditional liturgical music, but they bring their own unique interpretation to the ancient texts. Born in Germany but raised in Ecuador, their repertoire includes pieces in both Latin and Spanish (and more). They create an ethereal sound that is both inspiring and deeply relaxing.
The selection linked below is their rendition of Psalm 91. Do yourself a favor and go through the selections available on their YouTube channel. You can also learn more about them at their website here. If you’re interested, you can watch an interview with them here.
The great treasures of our tradition are slowly but surely returning to public consciousness—you just have to know where to look.
